Nine athletes from T.R. Miller and eight more from W.S. Neal High School landed spots on the Birmingham News Class 3A All-State Academic Team for the 2005-06 school year.
Athletes had to be a junior or senior and had to maintain a grade point average between 3.7 and 4.0. GPAs of 4.0 were higher in certain instances due to weighted scoring systems.
T.R. Miller girls selected to the team included senior Haley Rilling, senior Leigh Cooper and senior Catherine Stokes. Rilling played softball and sported a GPA of 3.73. Cooper also played softball and had a 3.72 GPA. Stokes competed in tennis and finished at 4.08.
T.R. Miller boys who were chosen for the team included junior Kelly Stallworth, junior Brad Smith, senior Clay Parker, senior Tripp Owens, junior Mitchell McMillan and senior David Mathieu.
Stallworth, who played basketball and track, had a 3.97 grade point average. Smith competed in football and had a 3.89 GPA. Parker and Owens both played golf. Parker had a 4.10 GPA, while Owens came in at 3.78. McMillan played tennis and had a 3.80 GPA. Mathieu, who had a 3.70 GPA, ran cross country and track.
W.S. Neal girls on the team included senior Shekinah Adams, junior Katelin Hulley, senior Andrea King and senior Carolyn Marshall.
Adams played basketball and fielded a 3.80 grade point average. Hulley competed in volleyball and had a 4.70 GPA. King, who played softball, had a 4.70 GPA. Marshall played basketball and had a 4.0 GPA.
W.S. Neal boys on the team included junior Jared Cooper, junior Aaron Lambert, senior Justin Cole and senior Whitney Qualls.
Cooper played baseball and football with a 4.20 grade point average. Lambert played football with a 4.60 GPA. Cole competed in baseball and had a 4.30 GPA. Qualls also played baseball and had a 3.80 GPA.
Nearby Flomaton High School had six students on the Class 2A Team. Girls included juniors Carol Hardin and Jessica Morris.
Hardin played basketball and had a 3.80 grade point average. Morris played softball and had a 4.0 GPA.
Flomaton boys on the team included senior Patrick Jernigan and juniors Allen Bell, Jonathan Mize and Jonathan McMath.
Jernigan played football and had a 3.90 grade point average. Bell also played football and checked in with a 4.0 GPA. Mize played football and baseball with a 3.90 GPA. McMath played baseball and had a 4.0 GPA.
