Mr. Melvin Julious Burkett, 73, died Thursday, June 22, 2006, in Pensacola, Fla. at his sister's residence after an extended illness. He was a native and longtime resident of Brewton. He was a member of New Hopewll Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran and a retired drilling superintendent with 35 years of service.
He is survived by a son, Dennis (Nelda) Burkett of Dubai,UAE; three daughters, Patricia (Robert) Neese of Stavanger, Norway; and Cynthia (Billy) Lundy and Angelique (Wesley) Findley, both of Brewton; one sister, Marie Burkett Tolbert of Cantonment, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Michael Burkett, Brandon Burkett, Daniel Neese, Deva Hornbeak, Lacey Hornbeak, Will Findley and Andrew Findley; and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held today, Sunday, June 25, at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron McGhee officiating. Burial will follow at Weaver Cemetery on Appleton Road with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
