They may have let one lead slip away, but the offense of the Brewton Little League Age 9-10 All-Stars made sure they would not let a second one get away.
Brewton scored in every inning and lashed out 14 hits in an 18-8, four-inning victory over Covington County Monday in an elimination game at the district tournament played at Andalusia.
Brewton led 6-2 after two innings before Covington County stormed back with six runs in the top of the third to take an 8-6 lead. Brewton matched those six runs with six of its own in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead again, this time for good.
The key blows in the decisive frame, which put Brewton on top 12-8, were Keaton Parker's two-run double and Chris Jones' RBI single.
Brewton closed out the game on the mercy rule with its second straight six-run frame in the fourth. Darby Black delivered a key RBI single, while a two-run single by Jones ended. It was the third hit of the game for Jones.
Trey Salter picked up the win for Brewton, as he pitched one and one-third innings of scoreless relief.
Brewton played East Brewton in another elimination game Tuesday night.

Andalusia 11, Brewton 0
Brewton fell into the elimination bracket Sunday when it was ambushed 11-0 by Andalusia in three and a half innings.
Brewton was blanked on just two hits by Andalusia pitcher Q Maddox. Dedrionne Lee's second inning single was the only ball that Brewton hit that left the infield.
Despite the fact it scored 11 runs, Andalusia only had four hits. Much of Andalusia's damage came through the seven free passes it received via five walks and two hit batsmen. Brewton also committed four errors.
Andalusia doubled that cushion to 6-0 in the bottom of the second inning when a pair of walks, a hit batter, an error and Maddox's RBI single led to three more runs. It also ended Brewton starting
pitcher Kyle Davis' day on the hill.
Brewton relievers Darby Black and Caden Lodge fared a little better when Andalusia strung together a five-run rally in the bottom of the third that took the lead up to 11-0. It also kicked the 10-run rule into effect. Lance Sermon delivered a two-run single for the home team, but the biggest play came when Maddox circled the bases and two other runs scored when
his infield single was thrown away.

Brewton 7, Evergreen 1
Brewton used the pitching arm of Zac Griffin and the hitting of Darby Black to down Evergreen 7-1 in Saturday's opening round.
Griffin scattered five hits and struck out three, as he fell one out shy of a complete game performance. Meanwhile Black gave him plenty of support at the plate where he had a pair of doubles and a single. It was also Darby who got the final out and preserved Griffin's victory.
Brewton took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Darby doubled and Caden Lodge walked. Both runners eventually scored on wild pitches.
While those were the only runs Brewton needed, it gave Griffin more breathing room in the fourth when it stretched the lead to 5-0.
Black and Dedrionne Lee both singled. After Black scored on a wild pitch and Trey Salter walked, Keaton Parker stroked an RBI single. Another run scored on a wild pitch.
Brewton got its final two runs in the fifth when Kyle Davis singled and scored on a double by Black. Black later scored on a wild pitch.
