An East Brewton homeowner got a reprieve during the East Brewton City Council meeting Monday.
Among the business items discussed during the regular council meeting was the condition of two homes in the East Brewton area. Homeowner Marsha McGaha was present when discussion came to the table concerning her Boyd Street property.
Lawton Shipp, East Brewton's building inspector, said McGaha has made an effort to alleviate the problems at her property.
McGaha, accompanied by her attorney, approached the council to ask for an additional 90 days to continue work on the structure.
The council agreed to give McGaha the additional 90 days since she is making a concerted effort to bring the property up to code.
A house located at 126 Mayo St. was also discussed during the meeting.
The house, owned by Gwendolyn Nobles, who is now living in New Jersey, is in a bad state of disrepair, according to Mayor Terry Clark.
According to Clark, the house has been condemned and is now officially property of the City of East Brewton. They city will hold a lien on the property from this point forward.
Shipp will be in contact with the owners and give them seven days to respond to the city's action. Following that, the city will have authority clear the structure from the property.
