Continue to take precautions for fire safety
It's almost becoming a broken record for area fire departments - the call of a brush fire somewhere in the county.
Escambia County doesn't have an official burn ban, although Flomaton and Atmore have both instituted one in their cities.
But the Forestry Commission is strongly urging residents to use all necessary precautions with outdoor fire.
In the summer months - especially with conditions as dry as they have been - the chances of a simple barbecue or controlled burn getting out of hand are too high.
In June alone, 346 fires burned nearly 4,000 acres across Alabama.
You may not realize it, but you are responsible for every fire you set. According to the Forestry Commission, anyone burning more than a quarter of an acre or within 25 feet of natural combustible material should obtain a permit to burn.
We all need to take responsibility for ourselves and watch what happens where fire is concerned.
A fire can quickly get out of hand and threaten not just you but your neighbors.
