Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks infielder Lakyn Newton will get an opportunity to continue her career next spring at Shorter College.
Newton won JDCC's hitting Triple Crown this past spring with .434 batting average, four homeruns and 50 RBIs. She also had team highs for slugging percentage at .667, total bases with 106, hits with 69, doubles with 25, sacrifice flies with six and stolen bases with seven.
The Greenville High School product was an Alabama Community College Conference South Division First team selection and an All-Region 22 Team Second Team pick.
Shorter is a National Association Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) member located at Rome (Ga.). Shorter compiled a 24-20 record this past spring.
As well as Newton performed this spring, Nims thinks she can do even better at Shorter.
