While land purchase and construction of a new Brewton Middle School are the top priorities in the Brewton City Schools' upcoming five-year capital plan, superintendent Lynn Smith hopes to address several athletic facility issues.
The one certain athletic facility guarantee that will come with the capital plan is a new gymnasium for BMS. That will, of course, come with the construction of the new school.
A high priority at T.R. Miller High School is the rooms underneath the home bleachers at Brewton Municipal Stadium.
Construction of a football practice field and possibly a softball field are also high on the facility priority list.
T.R. Miller softball currently practices and plays its games at the Brewton Area YMCA Park.
Resurfacing the track at the Brewton Municipal Stadium will also probably take place during the five-year plan.
Adding two tennis courts to go with the current four courts is also on the wish list.
The last major facility change at T.R. Miller came about the hard way when Hurricane Ivan destroyed the three 70-feet wooden light towers on the visiting side of Brewton Municipal Stadium. Two 110-feet concrete poles replaced the destroyed wooden poles.
