Area 2 Tournament
The Alabama High School Athletic Association has awarded T.R. Miller this season's Class 4A Area 2 Volleyball Tournament.
It marks the first time T.R. Miller has hosted an Area Tournament. Both T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal had played its previous four Area Tournaments at Clarke County when both schools resided in Class 3A. Both schools move up to Class 4A this year.
T.R. Miller, W.S. Neal, Andalusia and Hillcrest-Evergreen are slated to participate in the Area Tournament, which will be played Oct. 17.
There are two big changes in Area play this season. All Area tournaments will be single elimination. A double elimination format had been used in the past. All matches will now be the best three-out-of-five. A best two-out-of-three format had previously been used.
Area 2 is paired up against Area 1 in the opening round of regional competition. Area 1 consists of Escambia County, Monroe County and Thomasville. Area 3 (Ashford, Daleville, Opp) and Area 4 (Brewbaker Tech, Elmore County and St. James) also feed into this regional, which will be played Oct. 21.
The Area 2 champion will be granted the first opportunity to host the regional.
