If nothing else, the W.S. Neal Blue Eagles football team is farther along at this point of the summer than a year ago on stability alone.
That is, of course, is because it is head coach Blaine Hathcock's second summer with the program.
W.S. Neal's summer participation numbers are down slightly from where they were a year ago at this time.
15 players in each class. We're not at that point yet,” Hathcock said.
W.S. Neal players worked out three days a week in June. After a one-week break the first week of July, players returned to work the second week of July and have worked out four days a week since. Sessions usually last about two hours and 15 minutes with an hour in the weight room and another hour and 15 minutes on the field.
Twenty-seven of W.S. Neal's players took part in three seven-on-seven competitions. The Blue Eagles played a home and away series with Northview (Fla.). They also competed in a camp at Trinity Presbyterian High School in Montgomery where they played six games in one day.
Members of the W.S. Neal Middle School football team have also participated in summer work.
get them familiar with the different weights. We don't mix the middle school players with the high school players,” Hathcock said.
Hathcock said there will not be any huge changes in the summer conditioning program between now and the first day of practice on Aug. 7.
