Take care during hot days
A heat wave across the country in recent weeks has folks from California to Maine complaining about the rising temperatures.
They now know what we do just about every day of a Southern summer: It's hot, and there's not much you can do about that.
But there is something we can do about protecting ourselves from injury or even death. California - which has experienced rolling blackouts - has seen many deaths this year as a result of the heat, and at least two high school athletes have died from heat-related illnesses.
We may be experienced with the heat and humidity here in south Alabama, but that doesn't make us immune from the dangers.
And with football players and band members from both high schools out practicing in the blazing sun in recent weeks, we encourage everyone - from the students to their coaches and band directors - to take precautions from injury.
