With 117 students enrolled as freshmen this year at T.R. Miller High School, principal Donnie Rotch hit the nail on the head when he said it is a big class.
During a nearly three-hour orientation session held at T.R. Miller High School Tuesday, students were able to pick up their class schedules for the year and attend an assembly in the school's auditorium. During the assembly program, Rotch discussed some of the rules set forth by school policy.
Learning about the dress code was just part of the presentation made by Rotch. The policy concerning the use of cellular phones at school was also discussed. The State Board of Education has given the schools permission to set their own policies concerning phones at school, he said.
Following discussion on bell schedule and lunchtime activities by Rotch, the program was headed by Student Council president Kaitlyn Griffin.
Griffin, who also serves as a cheerleader captain for the Tiger squad, gave students and parents attending the orientation a chance to learn more about clubs and organizations at the school.
During the session the T.R. Miller Band's drum line performed followed by some cheers and a skit presented by the cheerleader squad.
Students were dismissed under the direction of the student council representatives to take a tour of the school. Students were shown where to find their homeroom classes as well as other points of interest around the campus.
All students, including freshmen, will report for their first day of school tomorrow at 8 a.m.
