Brewton City School students have been introduced to some new faces since the beginning of the school year.
At Brewton Elementary School, two teachers have been added to the list of faculty members at the school. Wendy Riley, who teaches second grade has 10 years teaching experience and is a graduate of Auburn University at Montgomery where she received a Bachelors of education degree. She is a certified elementary education instructor by the Alabama State Department of Education. Dana McKenzie is beginning her teaching career in one of the four kindergarten classes at the school. She is a graduate of the University of Alabama where she received a Bachelor's degree in the field of elementary education. She is state certified as a K-6 teacher.
At Brewton Middle School, four new faculty members will be guiding students in their academic endeavors this year. Terri Perryman comes to the school with eight years of teaching experience and will be teaching fifth grade Science this year. She is a graduate of the University of Mobile with a Bachelor's degree in management and a Master's degree in education. She will also be serving as the sponsor for the Gardening Club.
James Holmes will be putting his musical talents to work at Brewton Middle School this year. He will be teaching band for fifth through eighth grades and will also serve as assistant director at T.R. Miller High School. He is a graduate of Troy University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree.
Daniel Wilson, a graduate of Belhaven College, will be teaching physical education at Brewton Middle School this year. With a Bachelor's of Science degree in sports administration, Wilson brings three years of teaching experience to the faculty at the school.
Debra Conlee, who will be serving as the seventh grade language arts instructor, began her teaching career 29 years ago. She is a graduate of Auburn University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in elementary education.
T.R. Miller High School had the largest number of new faces in the teacher's lounge this year. With five new teachers added to the faculty roster, a wide range of experience should offer some quality educational opportunities for students.
Shannon Woodfin comes to Miller fresh from Pratt Institute where she earned a Bachelor's degree in fine arts. She will be teaching art at the high school this year.
Lisa Lovelady begins her teaching career this year at Miller. She is a recent graduate of Auburn University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Human Development and Family Studies. She will be teaching Family Dynamics for ninth grade; Interior Design/Creative Foods for eleventh grade and Parent and Child Dynamics for twelfth grade.
Flannery Stanford brings three years of teaching experience with her as she arrives to teach English for 10th grade and honors English at the school. She is a graduate of Auburn University at Montgomery where she earned a Bachelor of Art degree in English.
Julia Clements comes to T.R. Miller this year to serve as the teacher in the areas of Government, Social Sciences and Economics. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Auburn University and graduated with a Master's degree in education from the University of West Florida.
Catherine Watson brings 10 years of teaching experience with her to T.R. Miller High School as she arrives to teach Geometry, Applied Geometry and Calculus. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the University of Montevallo and also earned Master's degree in secondary mathematics education from the University of Alabama.
New teachers to the Brewton City School System recently attended a New Teacher Institute held at Brewton Middle School.
During the Institute, teachers were brought up to speed on dress code, conduct codes, reporting and other areas of information. The event was presented and moderated by members of administration at all three schools within the system.
Teachers began their regularly scheduled teaching duties on the first day of school last week.
