It took a little longer than most years to complete, but Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawks basketball coach Allen Gainer has completed his recruiting class for the 2006-07 season with three additional signings.
Among the latest signings is Maurice Edmondson, a 6-6, 210-pound forward/center from Douglas, Ga. Edmondson is transferring to JDCC from Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla. He will not be eligible to play for the Warhawks until the second semester, which will leave him with one and one-half seasons of eligibility.
JDCC has also picked up Norman Griffin, a 6-1, 170-pound guard from Theodore.
The Warhawks added some more backcourt depth with 6-1, 180-pound Brandon Stewart from Niceville, Fla. Stewart is the son of Okaloosa-Walton College coach Bruce Stewart.
O-W. Brandon hasn't played for a couple of years, but he has picked things back up in a hurry. As is to be expected being the son of a coach, he is pretty knowledgeable of the game. Brandon shoots the ball well. He'll either play a shooting guard or a small forward for us,” Gainer said.
JDCC earlier signed Quintereal Kelley, a 5-11 guard from Central-Coosa, and his high school teammate, Donald Smith, a 6-0 guard. Also headed to Brewton are Brandon
Knight, a 6-0 guard from Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Jake Nelson, a 6-4 forward from Jay, Fla., and Justin Owens, a 6-5 forward from Pike County, Ga.
Thirteen home dates will be a part of the Jefferson Davis Community College 2006-07 men's basketball slate.
The Warhawks will kick off their season Nov. 11 at Gadsden State before they make their home debut Nov. 14 with a 7 p.m. contest against Pensacola Christian.
JDCC will open up Alabama Community College Conference south division play Jan. 8 when it hosts defending ACCC south champ Chattahoochee Valley at 7 p.m.
