Alabama gas prices are currently listed as being below the national average according to information from area businesses.
With national averages for regular unleaded gasoline at $2.904 per gallon, Brewton and East Brewton residents are able to see a somewhat below average price in the area.
At the Minute Stop on Forrest Avenue in East Brewton, the price per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline was $2.85 on Tuesday with the BP station on Douglas Avenue showing a price of $2.91 per gallon.
Maxwell's two stores are supplied with gasoline by Cougar Oil in Selma.
Gas prices around the state are holding steady with prices seen in the Brewton area. The average price per gallon one week ago was $2.848 per gallon. That week old price is more than 30 cents higher than the prices seen one year ago. In early August of 2005, the average price per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the state was $2.504.
The reasons for the drop in gas prices is not known by business owners in the area, but residents and workers in the area are happy to see the drop.
Jason Smith, of Elba, stopped for gas at the Minute Stop in East Brewton and was not too upset with the price.
Although the drop in price by just a few cents has been a happy event for most people, some employers and employees are still feeling quite a pinch at the pump.
Daniel Griggs, who works with J and K Construction from Bessemer, was filling his tank at the same station and he has a special reason for being upset about the prices.
Even with those who are expressing joy in the current price drop or those who are still feeling a bind, there are residents who have faced the facts that citizens have no control over prices.
&#8220It's a fact of life,” said Brewton resident Gerald McRae. &#8220We have to learn how to deal with it if we want to drive.”
