This was one anniversary the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks volleyball team was glad they did not reach.
Eight days shy of one year from its last win, JDCC put the brakes on a 26-match losing streak Thursday when it downed visiting North Lake, Tx. 24-30, 30-26, 30-14, 31-29. The Lady Warhawks had not won since they beat Lawson State back on Sept. 15 of last year.
The Lady Warhawks (1-6) had a key 12-0 run in their set three win that put them ahead in the match. They overcame a five-point deficit in set four and still trailed 29-28 when a defensive point and two points by Megan Petrie clinched the win.
Ashley Willoughby put away 14 kills to lead the Lady Warhawks, while Lindi Thompson added nine. Tiffany Lively served up seven aces.
Earlier in the evening JDCC dropped a 32-30, 30-21, 30-28 decision to Bevill State.
Thompson had eight kills to pace JDCC's hitting, while Willoughby added seven. Lively served up a team best three aces.
The Lady Warhawks visit Gadsden State Tuesday for a 6 p.m. ACCC match.
