Brewton City officials kept mum Tuesday concerning a rezoning request from what was only described as a &#8220financial institution.”
City Clerk John Angel presented the request to the council stating that three parcels of property currently located in a residential area are being eyed by someone for the purpose of building a business in that space.
Angel stated that the interested party has requested anonymity in the request to the council for consideration in the process of rezoning.
Following little discussion, the council agreed to hold a public hearing on the matter on Oct. 10.
Also during Tuesday's meeting, the council agreed to accept a gift of property from a generous giver.
After a few council members jumped at the opportunity to make a motion to accept the offer, the group voted unanimously to accept the gift.
Following a unanimous vote, the City of Brewton now has a balanced budget in place.
The budget, which is increasing by more than $475,000 for the upcoming fiscal year, has a total gross amount of $4,696,155. The most significant increases in this year's budget are seen by the Brewton Police Department with an increase of $173,606. Another point of increase is seen with the reinstatement of the City Municipal Court system. An increase of $98,646 to the general budget will be used to fund the court system. The only budget item decrease was evident in the Community Development department. Other areas held customary or no increases.
