Local man killed

A Brewton man was killed along with his passenger early Friday morning in an accident on U.S. Highway 84 near Andalusia.
According to a spokesman for Alabama State Troopers' public information office, the accident occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m. near the Babbie Community where the four-lane begins between the two bridges.
The troopers spokesman said the 1997 Pontiac Trans-Am was traveling east bound on U.S. 84, when it left the roadway on the westbound side and struck a bridge abutment.
The driver, 20-year-old David S. Martinez of Brewton, and his passenger, 30-year-old Jose Mendoza of Opp, were killed after being ejected from the vehicle, trooper reports said.
Neither Martinez or Mendoza was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The accident is still under investigation by the Alabama Department of Safety.
No further information about the accident was available as of press time.
