Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith was injured in a bicycle accident Saturday on Keego Road, officials said.
Smith was in critical care at a Pensacola hospital but was expected to recover, said Major Mike Murphy of the sheriff's department.
Smith was re-elected in June to a second term as sheriff.
