Two of the three Brewton Youth Football League teams saw their respective seasons come to a close in the opening round of postseason competition, but the campaign continues for the Brewton Mini Mites.
The Mini Mites earned a
berth in the league semifinals when they doubled up Bellview 14-7. Brewton will take on Milton Gold Saturday at
1:30 p.m. at Pensacola High School.
Bellview took a 7-0 lead with a touchdown in the first three minutes of the game, but the Mini Mites' defense stiffened and did not allow another score the rest of the game.
Quarterback Kellyn Winn helped wipe out Bellview's lead with a 45-yard touchdown run and topped 100 yards rushing for the day. Chardian Johnson provided the winning score for the Mini Mites with a 35-yard touchdown run.
The Mini Mites were led on defense by Michael Thomas, Anterio Drakeford, Markail Mitchell, Marcus Paul and Kenneth Turner.
The Brewton Mites closed out their season with a 12-0 loss to Cantonment. Brewton finished the season with a 7-2 record at that level.
The curtain also came down on the Brewton Midgets, who dropped their finale to Milton 21-0. The Midgets finished their season with a 5-4 record.
