Mrs. Evelyn Lanier Cotton, 93, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006. She was a native of Damascus in Escambia County. She had worked for many years at Vanity Fair and was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, King David Cotton; four sisters; two brothers; her daughter, Mable Edmiston; her granddaughter, Lynn Edmiston and great-granddaughter, Brittany Donovan.
She is survived by four sons, John David Cotton, Robert Young Cotton, Harlon Gene Cotton, all of Atmore and Stacey Wilburn Cotton of Covington, Ga.; three daughters, Marjorie Troutman and Linda C. Helton of Atmore and Margaret Ann Beasley of Davisville, Fla.; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren and one sister, Marie Hooks of Damascus.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Randolph officiating assisted by Robert Cotton and Gladden Gibson Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery with Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons, Ricky Troutman, J.D. Cotton, David Edmiston, Stacey L. Cotton, Ben Daniel and Les Cruitt. Honorary pallbearers were members of Oak Grove Church of Christ, Gary Bouler, Harold Oglesby, Gene O'Terrell, Ronnie Berry, Sammy Berry and Lance Blackburn.
