Tennis anyone?
East Brewton is well advanced in plans of providing tennis courts for the citizens of East Brewton as well as students at W.S. Neal High School.
During Monday's council meeting, Mayor Terry Clark explained to the council that a $300,000 grant had been awarded to the city by Land and Water Conservation Funds from the State of Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs for the R.T. Johnson Park Improvement project.
The City of East Brewton will be responsible for additional funding and in-kind services that will match the $30,000 grant award.
In other business, the council agreed to a one-time bonus for city employees. A $100 Christmas bonus will be awarded to all East Brewton city employees, based on a unanimous vote by the council.
The council also discussed the bonding of contractors. The question of bonding was addressed by members of the council with comments concerning the public's wise choice in hiring contractors.
Clark echoed that statement saying that any resident should check out a contractor before hiring them to work at their home or business.
In other business, the council further discussed the possibility of erecting a monument to honor fallen heroes from military action. Clark indicated that some contacts have already been made and further investigation into the project will be conducted in the coming weeks and months.
