Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith is on the road to recovery following being injured in a biking accident last week in the Foshee Community. He may also be on the road home by the weekend.
Pettis said Smith remains in good spirits and seems stronger with each passing day.
Family members also indicate that Smith is seeing improvement on a daily basis showing signs of strength and solid recovery.
Smith remains hospitalized at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., where he has been moved from a two-day stay in the critical care unit to a private room elsewhere in the facility.
Cooper said the citizens of the community have been most supportive during such a trying time for the injured sheriff and his family.
Smith is recovering from an accident that occurred Nov. 4 while bicycling with his wife and grandchild in the Foshee community. According to Major Mike Murphy with the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, Smith was injured when he lost control of his bicycle.
Cooper said it seemed as if there were some miraculous events surrounding the accident.
Cooper said her daughter, Emily Ann, who is the granddaughter of the injured sheriff, was with him at the time of the accident.
Cooper said that she feel's that full recovery for Smith is not too far down the road.
