One man was killed in a fatal vehicle accident, which occurred at approximately 7 p.m. Monday about 4 miles north of Brewton on U.S. Highway 41.
Ricky Allyn Sapp, 47, was killed when his 1996 Chevrolet C1500 pick-up left the road and struck an embankment. Sapp was transported to Alabama Department of Forensic Science.
According to reports, early indications are that he was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, which is still under investigation by Trooper James Dean and the Alabama State Troopers.
The accident occurred in an area local residents have complained about in the past. The Department of Transportation did some tree cutting and debris removal during the summer to make the area around the curve more visible. Residents also said the speed limit along the stretch of highway was too high.
