FROM STAFF REPORTS
It was a break here and a break there that cost the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawks basketball team their previous two games.
JDCC made sure Monday's road contest against the Huntingdon College junior varsity did not come down to that, as it notched itsr first win of the season in convincing style with an 82-53 triumph.
The Warhawks (1-3) used their best surge of the young season to open up a 44-20 halftime advantage. JDCC had just an 11-9 lead near the midway point of the first half before it went on a 29-4 tear over the remainder of the half.
Huntingdon only managed to shave a point off that lead over the first 10 minutes of the second half and the Warhawks made sure of the outcome when they closed out the game out on a solid 23-17 run.
Twelve of the 13 JDCC players who dressed scored. DuWaun Johnson, who scored 63 points over the two previous games, led that list with 16. Johnson, who played just over half the game, also had a team-high nine rebounds. Norman Griffin was the only other Warhawk to reach double figures, as he contributed 10.
JDCC returns to action next Tuesday when it visits Bevill State-Jasper at 7:30 p.m.
