This is an informational letter from W.S. Neal Middle school PTO concerning the annexation of North Brewton into the City of Brewton. As you may have heard or read in The Brewton Standard, the City of Brewton is in the process of attempting to annex part of the W.S. Neal School District into the Brewton City School District.
It may seem that the only students and their families affected by this attempt would be the ones living in the affected area; however, this is not the case. Every student that attends W.S. Neal Schools would be affected.
It has been determined that between 100 and 200 students will be directly affected by this annexation. A loss of that many students would cause a loss of four to seven teachers and at least two bus drivers for our students.
The loss of teachers and students could cause a loss of extra curricular classes and could casue the number of students in required classes to increase.
Past and present administrators, teachers, students and family members have worked extra hard to make W.S. Neal Schools the best that they can possibly be by meeting and exceeding accountability goals set forth by the Department of Education. We are very proud of the success of our students and our schools. If the City of Brewton succeeds in its attempt to annex the North
Brewton area, it will severly cripple our schools and decrease what we are able to offer our students.
Please be aware that on Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. there will be an open meeting at the Brewton City Hall to discuss this annexation. Please understand that we need every person that cares about W.S. Neal Schools to be present at the meeting to defend our schools and keep what is rightfully ours.
Please contant your local legislature to voice your opinions.
Thank you in advance for your support.
