Young readers in the Brewton area have a vast array of books to choose from at the Brewton Public Library, thanks in part to contributions from the United Fund program.
The United Fund programs help to support 14 local agencies, which includes the Brewton Public Library. The funds are distributed to the agencies following a campaign to raise money through private and corporate donations. The campaign is currently under way throughout the Brewton area.
The Brewton Public Library currently has programs in place for children of all ages from toddlers through junior ages.
Although encouraging reading among the youngest of the library's patrons, the junior and teenage patrons are not forgotten.
Other agencies who receive contributions through the United Fund are the Brewton Area YMCA, East Escambia County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Deep South Council of Girl Scouts, Brewton Parks and Recreation Department; Escambia County Mental health Association; Gulf Coast Council of Boy Scouts; East Brewton Youth Sports, Southwest Alabama Mental Health/Mental Retardation Board; Escambia County Cooperative Library System; Alabama Cooperative Extension System; Disabled Children and Adults - Brewton Chapter; Hope Place Family Resource; and Christian Community Benevolent Fund.
The United Fund gives over 99 percent of every dollar it raises to the 14 agencies it serves. Donations to United Fund of Brewton and East Brewton may be mailed to P.O. Box 34, Brewton, Alabama 36427.
