Two Brewton hotels were the targets of armed robberies Friday night, according to Brewton Police Chief Monte McGougin.
Just after 7:30 Friday night, Brewton police officers responded to a call at the Days Inn hotel on South Boulevard.
When officers arrived, the clerk on duty at the hotel was questioned. The clerk described the robber as being a black male between 6' and 6' 2” weighing about 200 pounds. The suspect entered the front office with a gun demanding money. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled from the facility, according to a Brewton Police press release.
Later on the same evening, police officers were called to The Brewton Inn on Douglas Avenue for a second armed robbery.
Police responded just after 10 p.m. on Friday when the call of a robbery in progress came in to police headquarters.
Officers responding to the call interviewed the clerk who identified the robber as being a black male between 30 and 40 years of age, about 5'8” tall and weighing 220 pounds.
The suspect in the second robbery also was carrying a gun and was able to leave the building with an undisclosed amount of cash.
McGougin said although it has been a few months since a similar instance has taken place, armed robbery is not uncommon in the area. The Days Inn has been the victim of such a crime previously in Brewton.
McGougin asked anyone with information to call the Brewton Police Department at 867-3212.
