The project is covering an area from Riverview into East Brewton along Forrest Avenue. Paving will continue across Murder Creek Bridge into Brewton during the coming days, according to officials.
Clark said current paving indicates that the project should be finished up, if all goes well, by the end of this week.
Clark said he has asked the company to delay their daily work until after 7:30 each morning to help alleviate some morning school traffic problems.
As far as bus traffic in the East Brewton area is concerned, drivers of county school busses are facing delays in getting their students home each afternoon.
Although the current paving project is limited to the East Brewton area, the traffic problems have been evident in Brewton as well.
McGougin found himself stationed at the intersection of Mildred and St. Joseph Streets Monday as he helped to direct traffic during the afternoon rush.
With the work expected to continue in Brewton during the coming days and next week, pavers have agreed to a few points that should make the process go more smoothly.
The rest of the week should go smoothly for those drivers in the Brewton area, since McGougin has dedicated two officers downtown to help keep traffic moving as normally as possible.
Paving is scheduled for sometime in the near future along U.S. Highway 31, also known as Douglas Avenue, in the Brewton area. McGougin said that traffic should not be a major problem during that paving project.
No set date for the road work in the Brewton area has been announced, McGougin said.
