Escambia County sheriff's officials are looking for someone who hurt one of their own.
Deputy Chad Emmons was injured Monday night when a pickup truck he had stopped on a routine traffic check ran over him, Escambia County Sheriff Grover Smith said.
The hit-and-run occured around 9:30 p.m. near Pollard, Smith said.
Officials are looking for a white Isuzu pickup truck in the incident. Reports said the truck had identification from U-Ride Auto Sales, and East Brewton dealer.
Smith said Emmons had had stopped the driver of the truck on a routine traffic stop and was approaching the vehicle when the driver suddenly put the truck in reverse running over the officer before leaving the scene.
Emmons has a knee injury but will make a recovery, Smith said. &#8220Officer Emmons is recovering at home,” Smith said. &#8220He will be all right, but we are looking for the truck and driver.”
The incident is under investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, with Officer Adam Johnson as the lead investigator.
Efforts to reach Emmons were unsuccessful Tuesday.
