Brewton is not even halfway into February, but a busy slate of activities lies ahead.
On Monday, area children have the opportunity to take part in a unique production. Auditions for the Missoula Children's Theater's presentation of &#8220The Little Mermaid” will be from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday at the auditorium at Jefferson Davis Community College.
With the help of the out-of-town, professional children's theater, the youngsters who earn parts will have one week to learn their roles before a performance Saturday night.
This is such a great opportunity to expose our children to music and drama - with just a week of commitment for them and for their parents. It's a chance to get their feet wet in drama and try something new. Missoula Children's Theater even brings the props, costumes and sets, so all we have to provide is the talent - and the audience.
We hope the auditions draw a number of children, and we hope all of our community will come out to support these children in their endeavor. We're lucky to have the Brewton Council of the Arts to support such productions.
The talent doesn't stop there. The following week, the first Brewton Songwriters Festival will take place at Burnt Corn Creek downtown, with performances by well-known singers with local ties as well as local amateur artists and songwriters.
The funds from the festival will benefit planned renovations to Burnt Corn Creek Park, which should allow the entire community to enjoy the park.
We're glad to have so many events happening this month - and so much talent to support them.
