Accident leads to road rage

East Brewton Police responded to a two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon that turned into a civil disturbance.
According to a report filed by Officer Jason Blackmon, a vehicle driven by Mario Valasquez of Pensacola made contact to the rear of a vehicle driven by Freddie Wayne McCall Jr. of East Brewton.
Following the incident, Valasquez's car stopped in a ditch near the accident scene at 615 Forrest Ave. in East Brewton. As Valasquez attempted to leave the scene of the accident in the vehicle, McCall situated his vehicle in such as manner as to detain the second vehicle, the police report said.
Valasquez exited his vehicle and approached McCall, which resulted in an argument between the two drivers, the report said. McCall retrieved a .45 caliber Bersa Thunder handgun and struck Valasquez with the handle of the firearm, knocking Valasquez unconscious, Blackmon's report said.
After interviewing four witnesses at the scene of the accident, police took McCall into custody and charged him with reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He was taken to the Escambia County Detention Center where he posted a $1,500 bond and was released.
Valasquez was taken by ambulance to D.W. McMillan Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and was released.
Upon his release by physicians at the hospital, he was taken to the Escambia County Detention Center and charged with disorderly conduct. He was released on a $1,000 bond.
No further charges are expected in the incident.
East Brewton Police Officer Steven Bradley assisted in the incident. Also responding to the incident were members of the East Brewton Fire Department and D.W. McMillan Ambulance Service.
