JDCC's Bingert signs with West Florida
Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawks sophomore shortstop Steven Bingert has signed to play with the University of West Florida Argonauts, an NCAA Division II school located at Pensacola, Fla.
Bingert hit .291 (43-for-148) for the Warhawks this past season with six doubles, two triples, one homerun and 17 RBIs. Bingert, a Pensacola native, added eight stolen bases in nine attempts.
JDCC volleyball adds
pair from Louisiana
Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks volleyball coach Misti Nims has signed a pair of H.L. Bourgeois teammates to her 2007 recruiting class.
Headed to JDCC from the Gray, La. school are Brittney Rogers, a 5-9 middle and outside hitter, and Jasmine Jackson, a 5-6 middle hitter.
Rogers, who was an All-Region Second Team choice this past season, registered 206 kills, 29 aces, 74 digs, 15 assists and a 35-percent hitting average.
Jackson led her teams in blocks last season with 41. She also posted 178 kills, 43 digs, 38 aces, 11 assists and a 36-percent hitting average.
Brewton Church League softball to have meeting
The Greater Brewton Area Church Softball League will hold an organizational meeting today at 3 p.m. at the East Brewton Firehouse.
Any church which would like to participate this season needs to have a member representative at the meeting.
If someone from the church cannot attend and would still like to participate, contact Mike or Pam Driskell at 867-8969 (home) or 363-0103 (cell). One may also contact Joey Shell at 867-6112.
The team entry fee is $150.
JDCC Baseball to host Summer MVP Camp
Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawks baseball coach Darrell Blevins will be conducting the Most Valuable Player Summer Baseball Camp.
Camp sessions will be held at Warhawk Field May 29-June 1 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The camp is for players age six through 18.
Hitting, pitching and fielding instruction will be provided.
The pre-registration fee is $60. Pre-registration must be done by May 25. Registration on the first day of camp will be accepted at a cost of $75. Registration on the first day of camp will begin at 7:15 a.m.
Pre-registration can be done by contacting Blevins at the baseball office at 809-1563.
