Sentencing for Roger Dixon and Victor Labraon Payne was held Wednesday at the Escambia County Courthouse.
Roger Dixon was convicted by a jury on charges of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Judge Bert Rice heard testimony from 15 witnesses as well as Dixon and evaluated some 59 letters from supporters of Dixon during a sentencing hearing, which was followed by sentencing.
Dixon was sentenced to 20 years (the minimum allowed sentence) on the attempted murder charge and 10 years (the minimum allowed sentence) on the charge of shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Rice chose to split the sentence, which would put Dixon in prison for 5 years on attempted murder charges and three years on the charge of shooting into an occupied vehicle. The sentences will run concurrently.
Victor Labaron Payne will be serving 21 years in prison following the conviction of a jury on charges of rape, second degree; sexual abuse, second degree; and enticing a minor for immoral purposes.
Judge Bradley Byrne sentenced Payne to 180 months (15 years) on the rape, second degree charge and 60 months (5 years) on the charge of enticing a minor for immoral purposes. The sentence for the two charges would be served with the Alabama Department of Corrections. On the charge of sexual abuse, second degree, which is a misdemeanor, was sentenced to 12 months (1 year) in the Escambia County Jail.
