When people talk about Coach Riggs and T.R. Miller Tigers football, they now need to be a little more specific. That is because there are now two coaches with the last name of Riggs in the program.
Mikel Riggs, son of head coach Jamie Riggs, has joined his dad's staff this season as the Tigers wide receivers coach. Mikel was a wide receiver for the Tigers during his high school career that lasted from 2002-05. Riggs played last fall at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, but decided to retire as a player after one season.
The younger Riggs said he was approached by his father about joining the coaching staff this season.
The elder Riggs said the addition of Mikel to his staff was more than just doing a favor for his son.
In addition to Mikel and Jamie, there is a third member of the Riggs family in the program this season. Jamie's youngest son and Mikel's brother, freshman quarterback Wil Riggs, has moved up to the varsity level.
Mikel said he has one message he constantly emphasizes to the T.R. Miller receivers.
In addition to his on-the-field duties, the younger Riggs will be involved in a lot of T.R. Miller's video work.
