get state tourney berth
The Brewton Babe Ruth 14-year-old All-Stars will begin their competition at the state tournament.
The District 7 Tournament, which was scheduled to get underway July 5 at Uriah, was cancelled when Brewton was the only member to field a
team.
State tournament action gets underway July 18 at Sylacauga. Game time and pairings will be announced at a later date.
Local athletes make All-State Academic
Ten area student/athletes have been selected to the Birmingham News Class 4A All-State Academic Team.
Eight of the selections come from T.R. Miller. They include junior Amelia Couture (softball/cheerleader), junior Michal Hubbard (volleyball), junior James Hamric (baseball), junior Tyler Davis (football) senior Mitchell McMillian (tennis), junior Sam Pendergrass (football), senior Brad Smith (football) and senior Kelly Stallworth (basketball/track).
W.S. Neal was represented on the squad by senior Katelin Hulley (volleyball) and senior Jared Cooper (football/baseball).
TRM 2007-08 hoops schedule is announced
A new regular season tournament and seven home dates highlight the 2007-08 T.R. Miller Tigers basketball schedule.
New to the slate is the Tigers' participation in the Choctawhatchee Holiday Tournament at Fort Walton Beach, Fla. The Choctawhatchee Tournament replaces the T.R. Miller Bank of Brewton Holiday Tournament, which was shut down after five seasons of operation.
The Choctawhatchee Tournament is one of two tournaments T.R. Miller will play. The Tigers along with the Lady Tigers will compete in the annual Escambia County Tournament at W.S. Neal Dec. 13-15. The Lady Tigers will play their other tournament at Pensacola Catholic Dec. 26-28.
T.R. Miller will open its season Nov. 30 with a home date against Northview, Fla. T.R. Miller will open up the Class 4A Area 2 season Jan. 3 at Hillcrest-Evergreen.

Registration underway
for JDCC volleyball camp
Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks volleyball coach Misti Nims will be conducting a camp July 23-26 at the JDCC Gym.
The camp is for players age eight to 18. Sessions run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The pre-registration fee is $40. Registration on the first day of camp is $45.
