Cupcakes are becoming big business for bakeries, and East Brewton-based Bakies Bake Shop is hoping to cash in on the phenomenon by opening a new location in Florida.
Bakies opened a new cupcake shop at Cordova Mall in Pensacola, Fla., on Friday.
McClelland, who continues to live in Brewton, is planning to travel to Pensacola every morning to run the shop, which will feature a variety of soups in addition to the cupcakes.
Bakies Cupcakes, as the shop is known, will have five permanent flavors of cupcakes and 10 others that will rotate each week.
The permanent flavors are red velvet, butternut, traditional, chocolate with chocolate buttercream frosting, and traditional with fudge frosting.
Bakies in East Brewton will offer the same varieties as the mall store each week.
Are mall shoppers ready to take a break for cupcakes?
McClelland took 1,000 cupcakes to Pensacola for the store's grand opening.
The Florida shop will also offer cupcake accessories for sale.
Bakies Cupcakes is located in the food court at Cordova Mall. The shop will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
