Remember to keep buying local
With changes among Brewton businesses in recent weeks and months, we're reminded how important it is for all of us to support our local merchants.
The money we spend with local businesses helps our entire community.
The merchants in our community are our friends, our neighbors, the folks we go to church with. But shopping locally often means much more than enjoying customer service with a smile.
We need our merchants to succeed and prosper - not just because we know them, but because our community depends upon their success.
The more money spent at a business like Shades of Gray, for example, the more money the folks who own and work at Shades of Gray are able to spend at other businesses in our community. We think you'll find that many of these business owners try to make sure that their own purchases stay within Brewton and Escambia County, as well.
Our city's budget is powered mainly from sales tax revenue. While it helps when we receive tax dollars from visitors from out of state - such as the folks we've welcomed in recent days to the state Babe Ruth tournament - for the most part, those sales tax dollars come from the residents in and around Brewton.
We need to do all we can to keep those tax dollars here in our community, and we need to encourage each other to buy local as much as possible.
