With the Advanced Babe Ruth State Tournament now on the books, the Brewton Babe Ruth League is now looking towards the future and the possibility of hosting another state tournament.
Brewton Babe Ruth president Mike Perry said that could come as soon as 2009.
Brewton hosted the state tournament for 15-year-olds back in 1991, which was the last state tournament the community hosted prior to this past weekend's Advanced Babe Ruth event.
The original plan was to use two sites for the Advanced Babe Ruth State Tournament, but all play was shifted to T.R. Miller High School when only four districts fielded teams.
Perry said he has received mostly positive feedback on the way things ran at the Advanced Tournament.
Perry said he was pleased at the turnout.
Rain probably caused the biggest debate on the way the tournament was run. All four games on Saturday's slate were played as scheduled despite the lengthy delay in the Brewton-Atmore game. The day's last game, a 16-18s elimination game between Gulf Coast and Atmore, did not start until midnight and did not finish until just after 3 a.m.
The completion time was not the only time issue in question. Most games started way behind their scheduled starting time. The tournament schedule allowed two hours between games. Just about every tournament game lasted over two hours plus the time allowed between games.
