As even long-time employees of Brewton’s container mill look to make resumes and fill out job applications next week, uncertainty over their future is a natural reaction, economic development officials said.
Blankenship said he understands that the process will be “unnerving” for people — not just employees, but their families and other businesses and residents.
Judy Crane, director of the Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce, understands that uncertainty very well. She is looking at the mill’s sale from a chamber perspective and a personal perspective — her husband works there.
With job fairs coming up this week and next week, some people may be looking for help writing a resume or polishing their interview skills.
Marshall Rogers, director of the Escambia County Industrial Development Authority, said that kind of assistance is available at the Alabama Career Center office, located at 1023 Douglas Avenue. The career center also has computer, Internet and fax services available to those who need it.
And Rogers said Jefferson Davis Community College will be monitoring the situation and may offer resume assistance as needed.
Overall, Blankenship said after the initial apprehension over the change, Georgia-Pacific’s purchase of the mill will be a good thing for the community.
