Lady Tigers volleyball opens season with split

Greg White picked up his first win as head coach of the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers volleyball team Thursday although he also suffered his first setback as well.
T.R. Miller began its season with a tri-match split at Flomaton, as the Lady Tigers were upended by Monroe County 25-16, 25-15 on the front end of the day's action before they rebounded to beat the host Flomaton Lady Hurricanes 23-25, 27-25, 17-15 in the day's final match.
Morgan Hubbard led T.R. Miller in both sets of the Monroe County match with six points in each.
Janel McCorvey was the leading server in the first set against Flomaton with seven points, while Michal Hubbard and Rachel Bostic each had five.
Rachel Bostic racked up a team-high seven points in the set two win, while Natalie Neal and McCorvey each had five.
Leigh Margaret Bostic and Michal Hubbard both had four points to lead the way in the decisive third set.
T.R. Miller's junior varsity won its season debut, as it knocked off Flomaton 25-21, 28-26.
Teralyn Moore tallied nine points and Elizabeth Nelson added seven to lead the Lady Tigers in the first set. Madison Floyd led the way in the set two win with eight points, while Leigh Margaret Bostic added six.
T.R. Miller will open the home portion of it schedule Tuesday when it entertains defending Class 4A Area 2 Tournament champion Andalusia. Play gets underway at 4 p.m. with the junior varsity game followed by the varsity contest at approximately 5 p.m.
