Ms. Amanda Elizabeth Thomas &#8220Baba” Payne, 93, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, in a local nursing home. She was a native and lifelong resident of the Brewton area. She was a graduate of Southern Normal School and attended Alabama State College. She worked in the Escambia County School System in the Boykin and Huxford Camp Schools. She was an active member of Second St. Siloam Baptist Church serving in many positions. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mattie Thomas; two brothers and her children, Hustin Hamilton, Thomas Payne and Leonard Payne.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Thomas, Carol and Justine Winston, all of Birmingham; a son-in-law and grandson, Oscar and David Hamilton of Sacramento, Calif.; a cousin, Watson (Annie) Thomas; a devoted friend, Avis Middleton; and a number of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. at Second St. Siloam Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Blue officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
