An East Brewton juvenile has found himself behind bars after being charged in connection with two burglaries in Brewton and East Brewton recently.
According to Brewton Police Detective Eric Suarez, the 17-year-old white male was responsible for a burglary on Sept. 12 at Pic N Save on Douglas Avenue in Brewton. During questioning regarding the incident at the local grocery store, the juvenile admitted to his involvement in an East Brewton burglary, Suarez said.
Suarez said the owners of the business were contacted and arrived at the store to determine the damages and items missing.
An investigation into the incident led officers to an East Brewton residence, where a 17-year-old juvenile was questioned and taken into custody.
Suarez said during the questioning the suspect admitted his involvement in the burglary at the Evans Tobacco House in East Brewton last month.
During that burglary more than $12,000 in cigarettes and related items were taken from the store during the break-in, officers said.
Officer Stephen Bradley said the manager of the store, Joann Evans, arrived at the business Aug. 29 to find broken glass and broken burglar bars at the front and rear entrances of the store.
The burglar was able to gain access to the store through the front door of the business after breaking the window portion of the door, Bradley said
The juvenile was taken to the Baldwin County Juvenile Detention Center in Bay Minette to be held in connection with the two burglary charges against him.
In what appears to be an unrelated burglary, Brewton Police are continuing to investigate a report of a break-in at Jalisco’s Mexican Restaurant on Sept. 16.
Suarez said the department was following up on some strong leads and hope to have the case resolved soon.
