The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward to help bring a possible dog killer to justice.
Officials with the national organization are offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting a dog and abandoning the animal in a Dumpster in Brewton.
Renee Jones, director of the Humane Society of Escambia County, said Tuesday an injured dog was found in a dumpster by employees at the Dollar General Store.
Jones said problems concerning animal well fair have always been a problem. Human attitudes toward animals need some adjustment.
Jones said the people problem is the reason this animal was left to die.
Jones said a medical examination determined the dog’s injuries were too severe to be corrected by any treatment. The animal was euthanized on Wednesday, she said.
Jones said she has had several pieces of information reported to her office concerning the case of the Dumpster dog, which the group named DeeDee.
Jones said the cooperation of police officers in this and other cases of animal cruelty has been wonderful.
Jones said the reward offered by the HSUS is typical in such cases as the one here last week.
Jones said the legal aspects of animal cruelty case are just now beginning to get the attention they deserve.
