Mr. Otis Woodrow Simpkins Sr., 91, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007. He was a native of Mexia. He was an active member of New Chapel Baptist Church. He had been a farmer and insurance agent and retired from Vanity Fair, Inc. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosie Lee (Joe) Autrey.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dether Salter Simpkins; five children, Lucy Nell (Albert) Lewis, Otis (Pat) Simpkins Jr., Relia Mae (Philip) Lee and Bessie Ann (Trevor) Johnson; two brothers, Gilmore and George; a sister, Relia Bell;13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at New Chapel Baptist Church in Mexia with the Rev. S.O. Malone officiating. Burial followed at Bergen Memorial Cemetery in Brewton with Presley-Fluker Funeral home directing.
