This is week seven for our area football teams, and looking at the standings we find our two area teams tied with two other teams for spots three and four. This week, the top two teams — Escambia County and Thomasville — will square off against one another with the winner taking the region championship and the loser taking the No. 2 playoff spot.
T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal take on Jackson and Hillcrest, the two other teams that they are tied with at 2-2 in the region, while next week Neal will take on Jackson and Miller scheduled to take on Hillcrest for homecoming. In week nine, T.R. Miller will take the trip across Murder Creek to face off with archrival W.S. Neal.
If W.S. Neal or T.R. Miller happens to lose this week, it may not be the end of their playoff lives, but it will certainly make it hard for them get that coveted playoff spot.
Only time will tell how the third and fourth playoff spots will turn out, but after this week, we will know who will be the region champion and who will have the No. 2 spot. We will know more after this week.
On a different note, I want to remind everyone that the county tournament for volleyball will be held at W.S. Neal this Saturday. T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal will kick things off with a 10 a.m. start time.
Also, I still want to encourage fans to submit ideas for a Battle of Murder Creek trophy. We have had some good ideas and would like to have more.
Until Sunday, good luck to all area teams this week and God Bless.
