Residents and visitors will soon be receiving a special welcome when coming to Brewton. The Brewton message center, located at the intersection of St. Nicholas Avenue and St. Joseph Avenue in downtown Brewton, is located on the site of The Ritz Theatre, which closed in 1992.
International Sign and Design from Monroeville completed the installation of the displays, city logo panels and all electrical work.
The message center's current technology had become outdated and expensive to maintain Angel said. That information prompted the Brewton City Council to make the decision to upgrade and improve the system.
The council originally discussed estimates of up to $75,000 in May when it was first considered to install new displays and equipment for the Brewton message center.
Angel said the new displays will be akin to movie screens in that full movement by graphics will be possible. Each of those graphics will have to be created electronically one small bit at a time.
Angel said the lease agreement with the Michigan based company includes a five-year warranty that will cover any problems with the system.
Angel said each of the displays is made up of 2-inch by 2-inch LED components.
