Brewton City Schools superintendent Lynn Smith has been made aware the school board will not be given the opportunity to consider a new middle school on the grounds of Dogwood Hills. That fact was made clear by a vote of the Brewton City Council Tuesday.
Smith said he was informed of the vote following the meeting of the council but has not received official notification.
Although the school board had not submitted a formal proposal, the board had hoped to build a new middle school on the site of Dogwood Hills.
Mayor Ted Jennings told the city council members it was time to let the school board know Dogwood Hills is not for sale.
Councilman William McGhee recommended the school board be notified in writing so other opportunities for the school site could be pursued.
Smith said the next meeting of the Brewton City School Board is set for Nov. 19.
