Mrs. Virginia Gillis Grand, 78, of Evergreen Avenue, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native of Brewton and a long-time resident of New Orleans, La., before returning to Brewton in 1984. She was a retired receptionist with the Department of Human Resources in Brewton and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brewton. She was very active with the Escambia County Historical Society and a former director with the local Red Cross for nine years, and was former director for the Brewton Nutrition Center.
She is survived by her son, Frank (Brenda) Grand of Woodbridge, Va.; two daughters, April Byrd of Metarie, La., and Georgianna Grand of Pensacola, Fla.; three sisters, Jean Burson of Dothan, Sylvia Snow of Birmingham and Pat Cooper of Brewton; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 27, at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Brewton with the Rev. John Mathieu officiating. Burial followed at Union Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel directing.
