Mrs. Betty Jean Lacy Cofield, 65, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, at her residence in Jay. She was a native and lifelong resident of Jay and during her working years, she was a seamstress at Vic Tone Cleaners. She was a member of Cora Baptist Church in Jay, and Abundant Life in Century, Fla. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie Sue Cofield; her parents, Ila Mae and Herman S. Lacy; two sisters, Lucille “Shorty” Lacy Dixon and Willodean Lacy Lisenby.
She is survived by her husband, Bennie “Harry” Cofield Sr. of Jay; her sons, Bennie H. Cofield Jr. of Flomaton and Anthony T. Cofield of Milton, Fla.; three brothers, Wayne Lacy of Brewton, and Jerry Lynn Lacy and Gary Don Lacy, both of Jay; five sisters, Lula Mae Johnson and Luverne Slate, both of Jay, Eloise Muse of Bratt, Fla., Janice Phillips of Enterprise and Faye Brantley of Flomaton; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Dwenger officiating. Burial followed at McCurdy Cemetery in Century, Fla., with Flomaton Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Jonathan Cofield, Tyler Cofield, Dais Cofield, Timbo Cofield, Thomas Cofield and Brandon Collins.
