Voters in the Kirkland community may not be aware of the looming possibility of going outside of the community to cast their ballots.
The Kirkland precinct voters have most recently been casting their ballots in the Jackson Plumbing building on Old Castleberry Road, Sanks said. However, that facility is no longer available since the owner has recently leased the building to another business.
Escambia County commissioners are now in search of an alternate location for voting purposes.
The county does use some churches in the county as polling places, but have that number is limited, Sanks said.
The Escambia County Commission has the authority to break a precinct up into alternative locations forcing voters in the area to travel outside their neighborhood in order to cast ballots in any election, Sanks said.
Any church or other organization willing to offer their facility to be used as an alternate polling facility for the Kirkland precinct is asked to contact the Escambia County Commission at 867-0231.
